THE MOTHER OF THREE AND BLOGGER BEHIND CREATIVE WIFE JOYFUL WORKER SHARES THE SECRETS BEHIND MAKING A BLOG INTO A BUSINESS

We first met Abbotsford-based Codi Lynn Warmerdam years ago when she and her daughter Sophie won Highstreet’s Ugly Sweater Contest. Since then, we’ve been following the mom of three on her blog Creative Wife & Joyful Worker and Instagram, by the same name where she documents her life as a mother to 9-year old Ezra, 4-year old Sophie and 1-year old Evelyn.

On the day of our shoot, we ventured out to Bradner with Codi Lynn, her husband James and their children. Visiting the daffodil farm owned by James’ parents Bryan and Agnes, the property where James grew up and where the family grows over 130 kinds of daffodils. Giggles and smiles ensue as the kids play in the field, and we learn more about Codi Lynn and the story behind her blog.

“I started the blog in June of 2014, when I was on maternity leave,” Codi Lynn reflects, “I was planning on going back to school for Graphic Design and wanted a space to be creative.” Four years later, the once tiny blog, has since become a close-knit community in the Fraser Valley and abroad. “I’ve made some great Mom friends through it,” Codi Lynn adds, “it has created an opportunity for me to connect with other mothers with kids my age.”

Content includes motherhood essentials, topics like potty training and strollers, along with more personal stories about loving her ‘Mom Body’ and Evelyn’s birth story. “When I first wrote my birth story,” Codi Lynn explains, “I wasn’t sure if I was going to share it, but I’m glad I did. It got a lot of positive feedback, people appreciate it when you share personal experiences – they can relate.”

Codi Lynn didn’t expect the blog to become a business when she first started, but her creativity, consistency and eye for photography, has landed her countless brand deals which includes sponsored blogs and Instagram ads. “When I first started, I was embarrassed to say, ‘I’m a blogger’, but more people understand it now,” Codi Lynn refers to the legitimization of blogs as influential media platforms.

“Always be yourself, and be open and honest,” Codi Lynn shares, as we ask her for tips for anyone interested in partnering with brands, “if it’s something you don’t like and doesn’t fit within your lifestyle, then be honest with that. I’ve turned down many partnerships because of this.”

With a beautifully curated blog and Instagram feed, Codi Lynn is quick to point out the importance of Instagram stories. “Not everyone likes the idea of seeing the perfect feed,” Codi Lynn admits, “but that’s why Instagram stories is so great. You see the messy home, the no makeup days, the behind-the-scenes of the photoshoots”. Stories along with comments, Codi Lynn adds, “is where you can see the full picture of being a Mom.”
